Is truth absolute?

Although truth in and of itself implies a sense of definite knowledge or veracity, truth has become slightly hazy in what it constitutes in recent years. It's close connection with "fact" has become weaker. Why is that? We can gain a better understanding when we look at history as we have it. There was a time in history when those of the best and brightest were all absolutely sure that the Earth was the center of this universe, but as time went on we found that after searching, studying and questioning, that the Earth was not at all the center. It was merely a blip in the cosmos, revolving around the incandescence of the Sun. They had worked hard to find their idea of truth, but the real truth; that is, the fact and reality that could not be denied was that they were incorrect. That does not make them bad scientists or unintelligent humans. They operated on their level of understanding and did their best given the circumstances. They simply did not know there was more truth to be found. As a result of events like these that are found throughout time, mankind questions everything, even those things that cannot be found through simple magnifying glasses and test tubes.

Oftentimes we are so caught up in having our own earth-centered universe (starring us as the Earth) we forget about the large and infallible truth. This undeniable truth is that God is the Sun in every universe. He illuminates and enlightens everyone who searches for that light. Much like how the earth must turn for the light to shine upon its face, so do we have to turn towards our Heavenly Father to receive the light He freely offers us. Amidst a world where a myriad of ideas can push us to devise a bubble of a truth of our making, God offers us a place in the truth of His perfect creation. Though the world might have us believe that we must always keep doubting and questioning, God would rather have us know and be at peace with the fact that He is there. Amos 8:11-12 warned us of those days when all who searched for His word would search in futility. After such a fruitless time, many have given up their search. Like scientists of old, they may have resigned themselves to the idea that the truth is before their eyes and made their conclusions, but God has given us further light. He has given us deeper meaning and understanding to those once unclear truths. The countless who yearn for the truth can find and hear the voice of the Lord if they ‘’arouse [their] faculties’’ and “desire to believe” once again and seek the truth (Alma 32:27 in the Book of Mormon). Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf said ‘’those who diligently seek to learn of Christ, eventually will come to know Him’’ As missionaries in Christ’s own church, we invite everyone to seek Him sincerely and come to know of His love, grace. We invite everyone to come to know His truth.
